https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Walker_(footballer,_born_1913)
Dick Walker. Former captain during and after the war years.
In 1957 he had a testimonial against Sparta Rotterdam.
I came across Dick Walker accidentally, I was working in a psychiatric hospital, same time as Greavsie was there, and one of the nurses said to me, 'he played for West Ham!' Poor man was suffering with alzheimer's. Managed to get some sort of conversation with him and he confirmed he played centre-half. Such a shame.

That 1958 link Leeshere is a great find I could have been at that game as that was the year my Dad started taking me to our games.

Re: For The Oldies. West Ham V Wolves 1960-61
Every Saturday afternoon the BBC broadcast one football commentary live in those days. It might be that a recording of the match commentary was matched up with some news footage or whatever.

Re: For The Oldies. West Ham V Wolves 1960-61
The BBC showed short highlights of matches (initially a maximum of 5 mins) from 1955, according to Wiki.

Perhaps they increased that to ten mins by 1960.

Or someone's got hold of the original tapes from which the highlights were distilled.

I was at that game. If I recall properly at that game we were comparing Bobby Moore with Ron Flowers who at that time was the established England left half.

I'm puzzled as to where this footage comes from. It is of course Kenny Wolstenholme doing the commentary, but the first MOTD was in '64. So does anyone know where this video originates?

I was hoping to see what Johnny Lyall was like as a player. Don't hink he got mentioned at all in the commentary.
